MEPCO Net Metering – Complete Guide for Solar Users

1. What is Net Metering?

Net Metering is a billing system that allows solar panel users to sell extra electricity back to the national grid. When your solar system produces more energy than you consume, the surplus is sent to MEPCO’s grid, and you receive credits that reduce your electricity bill. In simple words, your meter runs “backwards” when you generate excess power.

2. Benefits of MEPCO Net Metering

MEPCO’s net metering provides several advantages for residential, commercial, and industrial users:

Huge Reduction in Electricity Bills

With MEPCO Net Metering, your solar system produces clean electricity that directly cuts down your grid consumption. Any extra units you generate are exported back to MEPCO, and these exported units are adjusted against your monthly bill. This means you pay only for the net units consumed — often reducing your electricity bill by 50% to 90% depending on your solar capacity. Many users even receive a zero bill during high-production months.

Earn from Excess Energy

One of the biggest advantages of MEPCO Net Metering is that it turns your solar system into an income source. When your panels produce more electricity than you use, the extra units go back into the MEPCO grid. These exported units are recorded by your bi-directional meter and converted into monetary credits. If your exported units exceed your monthly usage, MEPCO pays you according to the approved NEPRA rate.

Promotes Clean Energy

MEPCO Net Metering encourages the use of renewable energy by allowing households and businesses to rely more on solar power. By generating clean electricity, you help reduce the demand for fossil fuels and cut down harmful carbon emissions. This shift toward solar energy supports a healthier environment, improves air quality, and contributes to a greener and more sustainable Pakistan. With net metering, every unit of solar energy you export plays a small but meaningful role in protecting the planet.MEPCO-Net-Metering

Fast ROI (Return on Investment)

With MEPCO Net Metering, the money you invest in a solar system starts returning quickly. Since your monthly electricity bills drop significantly and you can even earn from excess units, the overall cost of the system is recovered much faster than traditional energy setups. Most users achieve a full return on investment within 3 to 5 years, depending on system size and usage. After that, the electricity your system produces is practically free, giving you long-term savings for many years to come.
